On this trip to the zoo we practiced using a chart. This was a new concept and she thought it was really cool! She loved it!
Materials: Chart
Stamp (or stickers, or crayons, etc....)

I just printed out a
two-column chart with pictures of two different things we would see at
the zoo. I knew ahead of time that we'd see a zillion peacocks and only
a few zebras, so I chose those two. I glued the chart to the back of
an old cereal box, gave her a stamp to keep track of her observations,
and let her go to it.
Now we use charts (normally impromptu charts drawn on the back of receipts with a pencil) at the grocery store, the park, and lots of other places. When she has a specific directive, her experience in a familiar location becomes entirely new!
